Rooted and Grounded in Living Water

By Sheri Frances When I quiet my heart before the Lord, I often see myself as a tree — rooted and grounded in His love. My roots run deep into the soil of faith. I am not shaken. I have a firm foundation. I am planted by still waters, where His Spirit restores my soul. The mountains around me declare the glory of God, and I join in their song.
“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.”— Jeremiah 17:7–8
In this place of peace, I remember that Living Water represents the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (John 7:37–38)This river is not still or stagnant — it’s alive, refreshing, and full of movement. It brings purity, renewal, and blessing. When we rest by His waters, we are filled and nourished by His Spirit.

🌿 Two Trees — Two Ways of Living
From the beginning, two trees were placed in the garden — the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Both offered fruit, but only one offered life.
The Tree of Life is filled with the fruit of the Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. But the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is filled with judgment, striving, and fear.
It’s possible to love God and yet live from the wrong tree — trying to do everything right, but disconnected from His flow of grace. The enemy loves to keep us striving, comparing, and doubting who we are. But Jesus came to restore our access to the Tree of Life.
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”— Colossians 2:6–7
When we live from the Tree of Life, we live from union with Him — rooted in love, grounded in truth, and sustained by His Spirit.

💧 Planted Beside Still Waters
The Psalmist writes, “He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” (Psalm 23:2–3)That stillness doesn’t mean nothing is happening — it means peace in the midst of movement. The Living Water flows around our roots, nourishing every hidden place.
The deeper our roots go into Him, the more fruit our lives produce. Like the river in Revelation 22, flowing from the throne of God, the Spirit moves through us — bringing healing, creativity, and renewal wherever we are planted.
“The river of the water of life... flowed from the throne of God and of the Lamb. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month.”— Revelation 22:1–2

🌺 Reflection
When I live rooted in His Spirit, I no longer strive to be good — I simply rest in His goodness. His love anchors me. His water renews me. His fruit grows naturally in me.
The Tree of Life is not just in Heaven — it’s within us. Christ in us, the hope of glory, has become our Living Water and our firm foundation.
✨ Reflection Prompt
Take a quiet moment this week and ask the Lord:
“Am I living from the Tree of Life or from the Tree of Knowledge? What areas of my heart need to be rooted more deeply in Your love?”
Let His Spirit water the dry places in your soul, and you’ll find new life, peace, and creativity springing up again.
💜 Closing Encouragement
You are planted by Living Water. You are rooted and grounded in His love. You are unshaken, fruitful, and alive in the Spirit of God.

Love, Grace and Peace to you. - Sheri
